History
Dating as far back as 1777, the site was constructed as a mansion for a wealthy family and passed through generations until the 1950s. The property was then converted into a boarding school for local children, known as the European Institute of Human Sciences. It became an Islamic college for related studies, including the Arabic language, with many additions built onto the Georgian premises. The school closed in 1996 and remained unused for more than two decades. In 2016, Highmead School appeared on the market, advertised as ‘frozen in time’, with all of its contents for sale along with the building.
