History

Heanor Grammar School was built in 1912 as a technical college. It later passed between local education providers, with its final use by Derby College focused on the arts until 2010. Dwindling pupil numbers contributed to the Grade II-listed building being vacated in 2013. Its surviving architectural details include the main hall, decorative archways and other early twentieth-century features. Plans were later prepared to convert the school into community leisure and business space, supported by £8.6 million of government funding.
